Right to Information Act

Right to Information Act

We all pay taxes. Even a beggar on the street pays sales tax when he buys anything from the market. This money belongs to us. But where does this money go? Why are there no medicines in the hospitals? Why are people dying of starvation? Why are the roads in such pathetic conditions? Why are the taps dry?

Now we have a right to question governments. The Parliament of India has passed Right to Information Laws, which empower citizens to question the government, inspect their files, take copies of government documents and also to inspect government works.A law which can change the fate of our country if it is used effectively.....

Blocking the blogs

The move by the department of Telecommunication to block websites and blogs apparently to prevent the circulation of material that was against national security is undemocratic. The blogs abruptly curbed the freedom of expression of the common internet user. In fact they have least impact as a majority of Indians do not even have access to the internet. Even the law is not defined clearly. A comprehensive set of rules should be evolved before such action is taken. Banning a few blogs after a major terrorist attack in any case, make no sense. It seems to be a eyewash, leaving behind the root for these activities.

Free, free :-} / :-{

In the context of recent trend in Tamil nadu politics “the freebies” .I was amazed to watch the announcements made by the political parties ,as the elections dates were nearing ,each of them were very busy announcing the list of things offered by their parties if elected .It included computers to TVs, one thing the list was attractive. I was amazed, where the money for all this comes from, definitely from the government’s fund not from the leaders pocket right, the fund which is raised by taxes. Well is this a good practice? This is an act of misuse of the governments fund for the benefit of the political parties well this trend should be checked out, should not be encouraged. I appreciate the effort take by NDTV which conducted debates over this issue, it should not be stopped at this level, and other Medias should take effort to alert the public over this. The funds used for providing the freebies can be utilized to provide employment to several unemployed, which would give a permanent pleasure, rather than providing a temporary pleasure by giving things free. Can be used to improve the infrastructure of the state ,doing so would attract MNC’s to invest in the state, there by providing employment to millions. Once he is employed he would be in apposition to get things he deserves. The political parties should attract the people by offering things which would definitely benefit people. I was attracted by the manifesto of lok parithran which clearly stated “we will not provide any thing free, but make sure u get things which u deserve “ . Virtually nothing is free….That’s the fact.
Hope the trend changes.

What’s the price tomorrow?

It was 23 when I was 5, 35 when I was 15, now 54 ……I am not talking about my weight, it is the price of petrol. Many might not consider it as an issue as it becomes most essential in their busy life style. But this is a major issue which needs to be optimized immediately. Fuel price hike virtually affects the entire economy of the country; it adds up to the cost of virtually every commodity from pencil to computer, affecting every class of people .Well its not a thing which can be avoided as it drives our transport means, so we can not avoid this as on today at the same time its crossing limits .Here we need to optimize .Here are some of my suggestions towards achieving the target.The taxes laid on petroleum products should be optimized considering the economical benefits to the country. Importance should be given to public transport, funds should be provided to improve railways, metro rails, and bus transport services .Doing so would reduce the fuel consumption per head. This would certainly reduce the no of vehicles on road there by reducing pollution, traffic, accidents and so on. These services should satisfy all class of people in terms of comfort, time and cost. Researches on alternative fuel should be encouraged. Use of cycles should be promoted, the benefits of cycling should be advertised and make it as a trend, and popularize, at least the higher secondary students should be made to use cycles. Laws should be coined over possessions of vehicles as in china. Electric vehicles and alternative fuel vehicles should be encouraged and subsidized. The political parties should not make it a issue for their benefits, both ruling and opposition parties should analyze the depth of the issue and provide a solution for benefit of the public Government’s policy towards the automotive sector should be revised, doing so the fuel prices could be optimized…..I am not sure that the prices can be reduced but can be prevented from future hike…….will this happen?
